Self Portrait WIP

Hmm I'm having trouble with the values feeling splotchy. Ideas anyone? Also I am not sure what to do with the hair, keep it cartoony or make it more representational, similar to my Monster Painting. https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3xvv7VLtUnspWHiMN_bvZCHTkCTLOJXuOgErEy6-SD1iYtXZbzhqa1k6TbXiQ3kWrD0EIWrlTxgJAlopYRyxu6abKraMqkhZqFRaoUtHvXFwfbbV2DDe_rbIkIq3wNcZaYKXz_XVf4Aw_/s1600/MonsterUnderBedLINEARTflattened.jpg

  1. I say roll with the splochiness- its painterly. as far as the hair goes, anything you choose should look okay as long as it is uniform- that is choose one or the other and run with it completely

  2. I'm not sure if I'm settled on the value behind his head. I like the design idea with the circles. Let them stand by themselves, I don't think you need to paint a dark value over them. Your paint application feels good though man. Your definitely getting better!

  3. I think some over-all texture in the background might make it feel less elementary, but I agree with those two... nice work.
It doesn't really feel like you, though... I'm not sure what it is. Is there a picture you're working from? That might help. :)
